I tend to use fixed focus lens, 50mm or 85mm lens always are mounted on the camera (I use a full frame camera). Longer focal length lens allows you to shoot from farther locations. Finally, a small place is to turn off the tone AF in focus, the children know that you're taking pictures, but not too much bother them.
2. Lower body
Many people are used to shooting by standing from his own position, but most of the time, they can only take the ordinary photos corresponding with the general visual angle. As long as you can adjust the angle of light to see the eye light, you do not have to be located between the photographed and light source. Windows is the most common light source, but in the dark enough room, TV can also be used as light sources.
2. Note the background
Capturing the children often running around means that you should pay special attention to the background problem. Too cluttered background will distract the audience's attention. Background can be virtual when photographing by using large aperture (but be careful too shallow but deep scenery.) Find a clean background - a wall - would be helpful.
